We offer three levels of DIY boats- Bare Hulls, Sail Away & Sail Away Plus to suit your skills and budget.
The specifications to the level of completion remain the same as our fully fitted boats and can be found HERE for narrowboats and HERE for broad beam boats..
Bare Hull
This is the lowest level and is exactly what it says - a bare hull built to your requirements with no engine or fittings.
- The hull will be built specifically for you allowing for a limited amount of bespoke design.
- The hull will be supplied with full documentation including the legally required RCD Annex 3 declaration of conformity for a partially completed craft.
- Engine bearers and skin tank will be installed to match your choice of engine if specified.
- Front, Side & Rear doors will be fitted to your choice of style and location.
- Window cut outs and other apertures will be cut to your requirements if specified.
- All provision is made for fixing the lining in place when fitting out.
- A weld in stern tube will be fitted.
- Appropriate stern gear, rudder & tiller (where required) will be fitted.
- Integral fuel tanks are included, stamped and certified.
- All bollards and anchor and towing points will be fixed.
- The price includes one crane lift
- The hull is supplied neither blacked or painted.
- No hydraulic helm equipment is fitted.
- No water tank is supplied. (We do not fit integral tanks!)
Sail Away
This builds on the bare hull specification above to provide the minimum boat capable of being supplied on the water for you to sail home to fit out.
It builds on the specification of the Bare Hull to further add:-
- Fully installed Engine & gearbox to suit the design of boat from Barrus Shire or Beta Marine.
- R & D coupling, Prop shaft, Greaser and Prop to suit design of boat.
- Temporarily installed but fully commissioned Engine controls & Instrumentation.
- Temporary engine enclosure where appropriate.
- Automatic Bilge pump.
- Starter battery & Isolator.
- 4 x Sacrificial anodes will be fitted.
- Windows will be fitted if supplied by us. (The choice of windows available is large and these can be chosen and purchased via www.canalboatbits.co.uk using the project discount scheme.)
- The hull will be supplied blacked.
- The upper hull will be supplied painted with a protective coat of primer.
- The boat will be ballasted to suit the point of completion.
- Hydraulic helm will be fitted
- No flooring is included.
- No battoning is included.
- No insulation is included.
- No fender eyes or deck fittings are included. (Other than fuel filler and vent.)
- To enable the boat to be moved on the waterways system the customer will need to provide the required safety equipment. (Fire extinguishers etc.)
Sail Away Plus
This builds on the sailaway specification above to provide a solid foundation for a DIY fit out.
It builds on the sail away specification to further add:-
- Spray foam insulation.
- Floor
- Lining in a choice of materials.
- AC outlet ring & DC lighting ring to tails.
- Exterior door linings.
- Temporary rear steps.
- No interior moulding trim or window trims are fitted but we can supply a full range of mouldings widow trims and materials via www.canalboatbits.co.uk using the project discount scheme.
- No AC or DC systems are fitted but these can be chosen and purchased via www.canalboatbits.co.uk using the project discount scheme.
- No LPG system is fitted.
- No water tank is supplied. (We do not fit integral tanks!)
- No fender eyes or deck fittings are included. (Other than fuel filler and vent.)

Although we can provide Bare Hulls and Sail Away boats with short lead times we can only offer Sail Away Plus boats when suitable short build slots become available!
