We use very traditional fabrication skills while embracing the advantages of modern production techniques. We are not a large volume builder and each boat is still very much an individual project rather than the product of a sausage machine production run.
- All hulls are fabricated following the Canal Boatbuilders Code of Practice 2006.
- While MIG welding is used above the waterline and for the superstructure we still maintain the traditional practice of stick welding the major underwater components.
- Wherever possible all welds are made internally and externally, where this is not possible e.g. base plate joints then a deep V weld is used.
- Rubbing strakes etc are continually welded top and bottom.
- Skin tanks are fabricated specifically to the engine manufacturers requirements.
- Folded hull sections are folded by Barnshaws to extremely high tolerences.
- Only the best welding consumables are used.
- You can view two on line builds to see how the hull goes together online:-
