Electrical System Overview

The following is a brief description of the electrical system fitted to our Calder range boats the Hebble range features a simpler system but this can be upgraded to the Calder system on request.

The electrical system is critical to building a successful boat a poorly designed or installed system can cause years of problems and expense.

All of our electrical installation are fully compliant with BS EN ISO 13297 AC ELECTRIC INSTALLATION and BS EN ISO 10133 ELECTRIC SYSTEMS - EXTRA LOW VOLTAGE D.C. the system is designed in accordance with the British Marine Electronics Association Code of Practice for Electrical and Electronic Installations in Small Craft. All components used are CE marked and or compliant with the relative specifications.

DC Charging and batteries
 

  • Domestic battery bank charging is provided by a 110amp alternator on narrowboats and 160amp alternator on broad beam boats. The starter battery is independently charged by its own 50amp alternator*(Based on the boat using the Barrus Shire range of engines.)
  • The Domestic battery bank comprises of 4 x 110Ahr Squadron AGM (Absorbed Glass Matt) Long life maintenance free batteries. A 5th independent battery of the same type is provided for engine starting.
  • Battery capacity can be increased to suit the customers needs by adding further batteries or using batteries of a greater capacity.

Distribution and Lighting
 

  • Electrical distribution is provided via ESP Panels and System components from Energy Solutions.

  • All lighting is fully marine compliant and supplied by Cantalupi Lighting who are acknowledged to be world leaders in the supply of marine lighting. Lighting circuits can incorporate domestic style two way lighting circuits or individually switched light. The standard lighting options are available in a variety of finishes to suit the customers preference and we are happy install any further additions or alternatives from the extensive Cantalupi Lighting range.
Victron 300Va MultiPlus 3.5Kw Travel Power Generator

  • 230V AC power is available at all time even when shoreline power is not available the AC power system incorporates a Victron MultiPlus inverter charger this unit will provide 2.5kw of pure sine wave supply from the domestic battery bank if no other A/C source is available and then when A/C supply is present functions as a state of the art 3 stage 120Amp charger the Multiplus is fully automated in all it’s functions and is equipped with a advanced battery management monitor.
  • The MultiPlus is more than capable of providing the boats A/C supply but this is supplemented by a 3.5Kw Electrolux Travel Power Generator attached to the main drive engine. This unit proves ideal for providing AC power at times of high demand ie Washing/Drying when the demands made on the domestic battery bank by the Inverter alone would require long running of the engine to replace the used energy.
