Eberspacher

Eberspacher

Eberspacher probably offer the most comprehensive range of boat heating systems available. Over 145 years old and still rated as a leader in miniature fuel burning design and production.
Eberspacher provide factory trained specialists service support through its worldwide network of local dealers.

The Eberspacher Hydronic series are commonly fitted to boats
Four slim line radiators are normally fitted as standard but both heaters have plenty of extra capacity to expand on this if required.

The heater unit is installed alongside the engine. A water line is connected to the boat's calorifier to give domestic hot water. From this line heated towel rails and drying locker outlets are possible. This offers the flexibility for summer use to avoid heating the cabins unnecessarily.
A second hot water line takes heat to the cabins. The hot water is converted into warm air via the slim line radiators.
Alternatively low current consumption fan blowers are available to work in a similar way to a car heater. Blown warm air is then available by switching the individual heater units as heating is required. These can be linked to individual cabin thermostats for full system control.
The water heater's own thermostat will control the system temperature automatically, very much as a domestic boiler does.

How do the Hydronic range work?

As soon as the heater receives its start pulse the following procedures are triggered by the central controller;

  1. Automatic safety check.
  2. Burner motor starts, preliminary ventilation of the combustion chamber
  3. Ignition starts and fuel solenoid valve opens
  4. Atomiser spays diesel or heating oil EL into the ventilated combustion chamber. This mixture is ignited by a high tension spark to produce a flame.
  5. The hot combustion gases flow through the heat exchanger, which transfers the heat to the engine's water cooling system.
  6. This thermal energy is forwarded to the passenger compartment via the vehicles own water/air exchanger. The residual warmth continues on to the engine.
  7. The heater is electronically controlled and works intermittently. In other words, the burner comes on for different lengths of time depending on the heat required.
